Unit 504: Servicing Anaesthetic Equipment

Aim: To build on participants' existing skills and ensure they gain a thorough understanding of how to use, test, service and maintain all key anaesthetic equipment.

Objectives:
Throughout this unit, participants will:

1. Get a helpful refresher of key theory that will assist their understanding of the theatrical equipment involved in this unit, including an introduction to theatre, a history of anaesthesia, respiration physiology, and Boyle’s gas law.
2. Gain an understanding of the principles of anaesthesia, ventilation, pressure reducing regulation.
3. Completely cover the basics that are essential to anaesthesia, such as operating tables, flow meters, and measuring devices.
4. Receive thorough training in the operation of the following devices: monitoring transducers, vaporisers, absorbers, gas delivery system, patient circuits and connections, medical gas cylinders, vacuum, entenox regulators, scavenging systems, and gas hoses.
5. Further this understanding by learning to test, service and practise basic fault-finding techniques with this equipment.
6. Learn the key health and safety procedures, documentation and legislation for these devices.
