Unit 503: Servicing Operating Theatre and Surgical Equipment

Aim: To ensure participants develop the skills required to operate, maintain, test and service theatre and surgical equipment.

Objectives:
Throughout this unit, participants will:

1. Receive a helpful introduction to stimulators and diathermy.
2. Learn how to operate the following devices: nerve stimulators, interferential therapy, ultrasound techniques, therapeutic ultrasound, therapeutic and surgical diathermy, minor surgical apparatus, and cryo surgical apparatus.
3. Further this understanding by learning to test, service and practise basic fault-finding techniques with this equipment.
4. Learn the key health and safety procedures, documentation and legislation for these devices.
5. Be fully prepared to undertake units 4-6.
